Portugal allocates a user number to non-nationals when they first use a public healthcare facility. Ask the facility which documents it needs to establish your registration and healthcare entitlement.
Keep your number and contact details together. Ask the health centre how to update your address and which services you can use. Do not treat receiving a number as a complete answer about all charges or entitlements.
Plan cover while arrangements are being confirmed
Identify when existing cover ends and what you need while local registration is being resolved. Check that a proposed private policy covers your residence, intended period and medical circumstances.
