D8 visa insurance in Portugal
Remote workers should match insurance to their visa route and intended residence.

Identify the route before requesting a certificate
Confirm whether you are applying for temporary stay or residence, and which application centre will handle the file. Send the current checklist to Abbeygate with the dates and countries in which you expect to live.
Remote work can involve repeated trips. Ask whether a proposed policy treats Portugal as your residence and how it covers visits to another country. Do not infer this from a worldwide travel label.
Keep the application and ongoing cover separate
Check medical limits, exclusions, repatriation provisions and the certificate wording requested by the authority. Compare the period required for the application with the period during which you need actual cover.
Keep track of expiry dates while waiting for an appointment. If your plans change, discuss amendments before a policy expires rather than assuming an appointment delay extends insurance.
Questions about this guide
Can I use the same checklist as a tourist?
Use the checklist for your precise national-visa route and consulate. Different application stages may ask for different evidence.
