D7 visa insurance in Portugal
Plan cover for the application, your journey and the period after arrival as separate steps.
By Abbeygate Insurance Β· Updated
Start with the checklist for your application
Ask your application centre which insurance certificate and period of cover it requires. Use the checklist for your consulate and application route; a short-stay Schengen checklist is not a substitute for a residence-visa checklist.
Write down the planned arrival date, the people applying and the requested period of cover. Ask the application centre which certificate it needs before buying. Keep its response with your application paperwork.
Check the move from visa to residence
Ask what evidence will be required at the later residence appointment. Tell Abbeygate which stage you are preparing for so the team can discuss the policy wording and certificate with you.
Do not assume that a policy suitable for a holiday will cover living in Portugal. Check residence restrictions, medical exclusions, cancellation terms and the process for extending cover if an appointment moves.
Questions about this guide
Does buying insurance guarantee a D7 visa?
No. The application authority decides whether your documents meet its requirements. Ask it to confirm the checklist for your own application.
