Why owners choose this cover

Pet cover that
actually pays out

1

Vet bills covered

Cover for accidents, illness, surgery and ongoing conditions — up to the annual limit. Pay the vet, claim the money back, no nightmare paperwork.

2

Third-party liability

EUR 1M cover if your dog causes an accident, injures someone, or damages property — the bit a lot of pet owners forget exists until they need it.

3

Travel-ready

Overseas cover for trips to the UK or anywhere in Europe (subject to PETS / EU passport rules). Same vet bill cover, anywhere in the cover area.

Pet Insurance Cover Details

Pet insurance for
expat households

Cypriot vets are excellent and significantly cheaper than the UK — but a serious illness, an accident, or surgery on a larger dog can still run into thousands. A pet policy turns those bills into manageable claims, and the liability cover protects you against the one-in-a-thousand scenario where a friendly dog causes a real incident.

Vet fees for accident, illness and surgery
Long-term / chronic condition cover (lifetime plans)
Third-party liability up to EUR 1 million
Overseas travel cover within the EU and to the UK
Cattery / kennel fees if you’re hospitalised

Why Abbeygate for Pet

A policy designed
for expat pet owners

Buying pet cover in Cyprus from a Greek-language insurer often means surprises when you claim. Our pet product is written in English, claims are handled in English, and the travel cover knows that expats actually take their dogs back to the UK regularly.

01

English-language paperwork

IPID, Policy Wording, claim forms — all in English. The vet sees a familiar form, you understand what you’re covered for, and the broker speaks your language.

02

Travel cover that works

Most Cyprus-paper pet policies exclude overseas travel or cap it at a few weeks per year. Ours covers EU + UK trips up to 90 days at a time — which is what expat owners actually need.

03

Fair claims handling

Pay the vet, send us the invoice, get the reimbursement. No phone-tag with a Greek-language call centre. If there’s friction, we step in.

Customer Testimonial

★★★★★

"Brilliant service from start to finish. They understand exactly what expats need. The protected no claims bonus on motor insurance is a game-changer."

Pet FAQs

Common questions about pet cover

Dogs and cats. Other pets (rabbits, parrots, horses) are quoted on a case-by-case basis — call us if you have a non-standard animal you want to insure.
No — like every standard pet policy on the market. We declare any pre-existing conditions at application and exclude them; everything else is covered. Get cover early in your pet’s life to avoid exclusions building up.
If you take the pet abroad (EU or UK) for up to 90 days at a time, the policy continues to cover vet bills and liability while you’re there. Subject to the pet having a valid EU pet passport / UK Animal Health Certificate.
Yes — if you’re hospitalised for 3+ days, the policy contributes towards reasonable cattery or kennel fees while you’re unable to care for the pet.
Cyprus has a regulated dangerous-dog list. Breeds on that list (or cross-breeds) require additional documentation and may be loaded or excluded. Call us before quoting if you have a Pit Bull, Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro or American Bulldog.
