2

Employers’ & public liability

Statutory employers’ liability cover for your staff, plus public liability for customers and visitors to the premises. Standard EUR 1M / EUR 2M limits with higher available on request.

3

Professional indemnity

For consultants, lawyers, accountants, architects, surveyors and brokers — cover against claims of professional negligence. Required by most Cyprus professional bodies.

Business Insurance Cover Details

Commercial insurance for
businesses, not for ticking boxes

Cyprus has plenty of insurers willing to take your premium. Fewer of them will sit down and work out what cover the business actually needs — and explain the answer in English. We work mainly with expat-owned businesses (restaurants in the tourist strip, small professional practices, tradespeople, retail) where the owner wants the policy to actually pay out when something goes wrong.

Commercial property + business interruption
Employers’ liability (statutory) + public liability
Professional indemnity for regulated professions
Stock, trade fixtures, money, glass cover
Tradesman’s tools & specialist trade extensions

Why Abbeygate for Business

A broker who reads
your actual policy

Most Cyprus business insurance gets sold via a one-page quote with a standardised wording. We do the opposite — we read the policy, flag exclusions before you commit, and structure cover around the actual risk profile.

01

Pre-quote walk-through

Before we quote, we walk the business with you (in person or by video) and map the risks: stock value, footfall, equipment, staff numbers, after-hours exposure. The quote that follows is built around those answers.

02

Wording-level transparency

We send you the relevant Policy Wording clauses, not just the schedule, so you can see what’s included and what isn’t. Where there’s an important exclusion, we say so before you sign — not after a claim is declined.

03

Renewal advocacy

At renewal we re-quote across the panel rather than auto-renewing on the incumbent. If we move the cover, we explain why; if we don’t, we explain why not. No mystery on premium movements.

Business FAQs

Common questions about business cover

Buildings (if you own), contents, stock and trade fixtures cover the physical assets. Public liability and (if you have staff) employers’ liability are then standard. Beyond that we add sections based on the business: glass, money in transit, business interruption, professional indemnity, cyber, goods in transit.
Yes — any business with employees must hold employers’ liability insurance to the statutory minimum. We arrange this as standard on every business policy where there are staff.
Restaurant cover typically includes building (if owner-occupied), contents and kitchen equipment, stock (food + drink), public liability (for customers), employers’ liability (for staff), product liability (for food poisoning claims), and business interruption (for closure after fire / flood). We can quote the full package on one schedule.
It depends on the profession and the typical claim size. Lawyers and accountants in Cyprus usually carry EUR 500k–1M; consultants and small architects EUR 250k–500k. Some professional bodies set a minimum — we check that for you before quoting.
Yes. Material changes — moving premises, hiring staff, changing trade, taking on a major new contract, adding stock value, installing new equipment — should all be notified mid-term. We adjust the cover and the premium accordingly. Better to declare a change than discover it at claim time.
