Why tradespeople choose this cover

Van cover for
working vehicles

1

Commercial use rating

Properly rated for commercial use — carrying tools, materials, stock or own goods — not the same as a private car policy stretched to fit.

2

Tools-in-transit cover

Optional cover for tools and equipment carried in the van, including overnight cover if the van is parked at home and locked.

3

EU motoring

EU-wide motoring cover as standard, useful for cross-border trips into the Balkans, Italy or mainland Europe.

Van Insurance Cover Details

Van insurance for
actual working vans

A lot of brokers will sell you a van policy that’s a car policy in disguise — fine in theory, until your tools get stolen or you need to carry stock for a job. We rate the policy on actual van use: own goods, hire & reward, public + employers’ liability where needed, and tools in transit as a proper section.

Light goods vehicle / commercial van rating
Tools-in-transit cover as an optional section
Goods-in-transit (own goods) cover
Multi-vehicle discount for fleet of 2+ vans
EU motoring as standard

Why Abbeygate for Van

Van cover rated
on actual use

We arrange van cover for British tradespeople across Greece — builders, electricians, plumbers, gardeners, courier operators. We understand the difference between an LGV used for own goods and one used for paid deliveries.

01

Honest use declaration

We declare the actual use — own goods, occasional carriage, paid hire & reward — so the policy isn’t voidable at claim time.

02

Tools that travel

Tools-in-transit is one of the most-claimed-on sections for any tradesperson. We make sure it’s included, with the right cover limit and overnight terms.

03

Same broker, every vehicle

One point of contact across all your vehicles — van, car, motorcycle — on the same renewal cycle.

Customer Testimonial

★★★★★

"Sorting residency health insurance for my family was the bit I was dreading about moving to Greece. Abbeygate had the right tier on the right paper, in English, and the certificate landed in our inbox the same day. Immigration desk accepted it without a question."

Van FAQs

Common questions about van cover

Yes — vans are rated differently because the use is usually commercial (carrying tools, materials, stock or paid goods), and the average claim cost is higher. Using a car policy on a working van is a common reason for claims being declined.
The tools and equipment carried in the van during the working day. Standard policies cover theft from the locked van during business hours and (with overnight extension) when the van is parked at home overnight.
Yes — this is “hire and reward” use, which is a separate rating class. Tell us upfront if you do any paid delivery work so the cover is correctly rated.
Yes — EU motoring cover is standard. If you take the van into the Balkans, Italy or mainland Europe, the policy continues without notification.
Yes. From 2 vans onwards we move to a multi-vehicle / fleet rating which is typically 5–15% cheaper than insuring each separately.
